Joining practically without a cable29.08.2016 8.01
Fiber-reinforced plastic sheets (FRP) bring important stability and weight advantages to aircraft construction. However, assembly of the new material is complex. That's why the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials in Stade, Germany, has developed a test system for the automated adhesive joining of FRP sheets, which makes manufacturing easier. The required flexibility of the joining device is delivered by the modular and decentralized drive technology, IndraDrive Mi, from Rexroth. The entire system requires 87 percent less cable length and 72 percent less control cabinet space compared to conventional solutions. Copyright image: Fraunhofer IFAM |
